it's a complete and utter harrypalooza!
I did it! I did it! So now that I'm giving you an accounting of my last couple of months, I thought I'd give you the complete low-down on the last week and holiday weekend.
Actually not much happened. Why? Because I was having my own personal Harry-palooza! Yes! I was waiting, ever so patiently, for my friend to finish up his copy of the Deathly Hallows, when I got to thinking. It has been a long, long time since I read any of the Harry Potter books. About 4 days after Half Blood Prince came out, as a matter of fact. I thoroughly enjoy Harry Potter and after doing a big catch-up to read Goblet of Fire when I was in Florida for a couple of weeks, I had just kinda read them as they came out.
Well, I had been doing a really good job staying away from the hype and not listening for spoilers. Those that I spoke to that had read Deathly Hallows seemed "satisfied." I was bewildered. The series is so great, how could she possibly end satisfactorily for all. There was only one person that I had heard was not satisfied and that was on a podcast. I think that it was Guido from It's a Purl, Man, that was a touch disappointed. And how could I possibly remember everything that had happened over the past 9 years? (9? Is it nine? Someone help me out here.)
So I came to the conclusion that I must, must re-read the entire series. Not to worry, I am a very fast reader. But I do have a life and a family and other outside interests that demand copious quantities of my time. Then, last Wednesday, as I was at the library, I saw Deathly Hallows sitting on the go-back cart. I had to have it. I mentioned my impulse to the reference librarian and while we were chit-chatting, he said, let's go over to the juvenile section and see what's in. I took home Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire and Deathly Hallows. I blew through 1, 2 and 3 and then it was Friday and I needed Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince before the weekend because it was Labor Day weekend and the libraries open late/close early on Saturday and are closed on Sunday. So I forced my entire family to drive to the next neighborhood library in hellacious holiday traffic in order to get both books about 15 minutes before they closed!
Fun times! I then proceeded to read the rest of them. No matter that I had two sets of relatives in town for the weekend. Never mind that I was completely stressed out about the job thingy. But 7 days and 7 books. Only 4000+ pages.
What did I think? Well, I'm not going to spoil anything for you, but I, too, am satisfied. Neither over the moon nor disgusted. I am merely satisfied. But in a good way. So now that I'm possibly the last of the Harry Potter fans to actually read the dang thing, what did you think? No spoilers please, just opinions of yay or nay. It will never replace or come close in my opinion to my other favorite children's fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia, but certainly enjoyable and great fun. A has started reading book one and is already half-way through it.
