So F is for free yarn. Vickie Howell, Craftitrix extraordinaire and host of Knitty Gritty is starting new podcast, Craft, Rock, Listen. (or CRL: with Vickie Howell) Hurray! And to promote it she's giving away some of her luscious yarn (while supplies last). So hopefully, I'm not the last on the wagon, although I probably am.
See here for info on my Encyclopedia of Me.
She's also got a great giveaway going on over at her blog for some cool craft books. Check it out!
F is also for fantasies and not of me and Fabio (shudder) lying on some white sugar sand beach somewhere. I have this ridiculous fantasy and it goes something like this:
I'm sitting on my loveseat in my office/studio, knitting/crocheting along on some project. Lovely soft classical music plays in the background. My youngest daughter is playing at my feet on my immaculately clean floor. My older daughter is absorbed in her book, homework all finished and neatly put away. I get up from my project to make my way across my completely clutter-free and spotless home to the kitchen where I have a pot of something yummy-smelling on the stove. (probably some sort of beef goulash and homemade noodles) I make myself a pot of tea. DH comes up from the basement with a load of laundry and proceeds to fold it. We eat dinner. Kids go to bed on time. (in their freakishly clean room) and DH and I run out to the bookstore for coffee and some magazine browsing while Grandma stays at home with the kids and reads.
Honestly, I don't think my fantasy is actually that far off. I think the only thing standing between me and this fantasy is about 2 tons of crap that I can't seem to part with and let go to other homes/recycle/throw away. I've done a lot in the past, but just can't seem to go that final 2 miles. Don't get me wrong, it's not so bad that there are pathways to wend your way around the crap (at least most of the time!) and all the piles of laundry in the laundry basket are actually clean, but need to be put away.
Does anyone else have this problem? How do you find the inspiration/motivation/perspiration for that final push through the last pile of junk?
In case you were wondering, I am still crafting away like a madwoman. It's just that most of my projects right now are top secret. I've got a good friend's baby to make goodies for and since she intermittently reads my blog, I don't want to post anything. One of the projects is up on Ravelry, so if you're so inclined, look me up over there and check out what's going down.
Luckily, she's pretty much about to pop probably tomorrow and then, I'll be able to show you. I could show you an extreme-close-up-artsy-teaser-type photo, but remember, my camera is dead. So I won't.
More crafty fun stuff will follow shortly. I keep forgetting to snap photos of my swap packages before I send them out. They're most of the stuff that I've been crafting lately.
Well, I did it. I went ahead and took the job. Still negotiating a few things, but for all purposes, I'm soon to be gainfully employed!
I'm excited to start working. I've managed to calm myself the f*** down after nearly working up my stomach issues back into an acid producing frenzy. I still haven't worked out all the family-care portion yet, but, I know that it will fall into place.
So I'm still frenziedly going through boxes of paper (I got sick of it about 7 boxes in and took a bit of a break), trying to get all my swaps out so I'm not behind and decluttering like crazy because I KNOW that I will not be able to keep up with the mess as it is now.
Speaking of decluttering and organizing, these two things are kinda like a hobby for me. I'm never completely decluttered or organized, maybe because I find the process to be actually kind of fun and plus, then I'd have to stop shopping. But there's always stuff to get rid of, no matter how many boxes, bags, baskets, buckets, carloads leave my home. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm making lists, organizing them, losing them, making more, checking things off, adding things on and just running around madly with my head cut off as usual. Par for the course, I think.
I still haven't found the cable (well, I did find it, then lost it, then found, then promptly lost again) for my camera so thus still no pictures. Sorry!
I'm still behind on everyone's blogs. Last I looked, there were 39,000 unread new posts! I'm never gonna make it through that many, so I'll just have to do the people that I *know* and skip all the rest. It'll be good to get bloglines back to zero! So if there are random comments from me from old posts, just remember, two months worth, people, two months!
So I've been MIA for a long, long time! I know, I know, I promised I was back and was I? No! I promised witty, sparkling content. Did I deliver? No! I promised to talk about more than crafting. Have I? No!
But I'm here to tell you, I'm back. And for those of you that actually still occasionally check to see if I'm alive, I offer you....
Go there, sign up, put up a nice and easy spam-free email address. (Might I suggest Pookmail?) Get coffee. Mmmmm. Coffee!
I'll be back after going through another stack of papers! This is what I get for panicking and throwing all the contents that were previously strewn on the floor of my old studio into boxes and labeling them "miscellaneous"!
EDITED: Don't know why it does that, but here's the link to the quiz! Weirdness!
I've huffed. I've puffed. I've moved a million boxes in way-too-hot-and-humid weather. I've painted. I've cleaned. And now, I think I'm back!
I've got some stuff to show you...but it'll have to wait until I find the box with the camera cables.
Have you read the last Harry Potter yet? I haven't and it's killing me, but I didn't want to lose two days in the midst of a move. I always thought I had an affinity for the Ravenclaw house. And yes, apparently, I should be in it!
So fun! Go try it yourself and tell me your house! I was so afraid I was going to be Slytherin, but nope! My results were Ravenclaw: 12, Gryffindor: 10, Hufflepuff: 10, and Slytherin: 8. Seems pretty close all around.
Dear Blog,
Please know that I love and miss you very much. I miss our mutual friends. I miss doing stuff. I really, really effing hate moving!
Please know too, that just as soon as I'm out of move purgatory, I'll be back with lots of sparkling stuff. And no, it won't all be crafting either!
Hang in there, my love, I'll be back soon!
Ever so tenderly and faithfully yours,
Lulubird
Okay, so Rachael busted me with the not-blogging-latelyness-because-I'm-avoiding-the-100th-post-blogiversery. But, luckily, I have found a way to circumvent the 100th-blog-post-woo!hoo!-let's-celebrate issue by deciding that the posts that I imported from myspace do not count. Therefore, I think that frees up a few more posts before I have to decide what to do. I'm thinking maybe a little contest or give-away, I'm not sure which yet.
So where have I been? Well, after coming out of the closet with the blogging about your children vs. protecting your children debate, I've been thinking an awful lot. I think I'm going to have to limit my posts with pictures of my children to be neighborhood only. That means those family and friends unwilling to register are just going to have to miss out on posts with pictures of my kids. Which is the only reason they read look at the pictures on my blog.
I've been a crafting fool. And a home-searching fool. And a drive-my-kids-and-MIL-all-over-creation fool. Mainly, I've been living out of my car, either looking for a new place to live that fits all my criteria while graduating my little preschooler, end of school-year parties and extravaganzas and toting kidlets to what feels like 80,000 violin recitals/concerts and camp and MILs to doctors appointments.
I'll post with pics and details later. Meanwhile, must catch up on y'all's blogs because, my friends, I am very, very, very behind!
Once again, I have been neglectful of my little blog. It's not that I haven't thought about posting, I really have. I've even been reading many, many blogs and I must say, that to lots of voxers, I'm extremely proud to be your first subscriber in Bloglines. w00t!
At any rate, yes, there has been much fun going on, preparations for a birthday party, some crafting tucked in here and there, oh, yes, and a big bombshell dropped. Well, not that big, but still, rather momentous for my little family. More on it all later. Piano! Piano! Slowly! Slowly!
So huge deep breath as I sally forth to deal with to tackle the ginormonstrosibleness that is my household at the current moment. I'll be back at the end of the week, but to tide you over I leave you with this lovely breath of fresh air from Yvestown, another of my favorite blogs. I love her house. I SO totally want to live there, it's so clean and bright! So not like this place at the current moment!
Ah, I see that my Clie has finished loading all of my housework-easing-time-flying-making-podcasts. Must go and tackle Mt. Washmore!
